AWP #9 – Prabhat Bhaskaran (Thrissur School of Drama, University of Hyderabad) – Shaping the Actors Body for Contemporary Performance

The main objective of Prabhat’s workshops is to build the actor’s body as a device able to meet the demands of Contemporary Theatre/Dance practice.
Prabhat has evolved his system of work and training from lessons taught to him by gurus in Noh, Butho, Karali, Kudiyattam and Yoga. Prabhat integrates a number of methodologies and exercises seamlessly to form his own contemporary practice. He like our AWP veteran instructor, Sankar Venkateshwaran work on this synthesis with the primary objective of helping the actor arrive at an autonomous state.Through discipline, active focus, and work on a sequence of structured, stylized movement patterns. He will work with the actor in this state of active readiness on verbs, impulses, and aim to get the actor to apply these skills to the creation of small individual performances.
